Camac Door Clips

Camec are a common caravan door brand.   The outer door has 3 clips which when closed clip into the 3 corresponding receivers on the inner screen security door.

The clips are quite fragile, deteriorate over time and are also easily damaged by exuberant closing or slamming in the wind.   Owning a Jayco provides the additional issue of the door on most vans opening with the wind whilst towing, where all 3 clips are particularly important to secure the door against the air pressure.

The upper and lower clips are the same, and the central clip differing in design.   We’ve broken 4 clips and after the first breakage we were forced to tape the door closed for 3 weeks whilst towing until we could source a replacement.   Its a great idea to carry a spare of each type.

The clips have elongated screw holes for adjustment in mounting.   The clips are easily replaced being held on by only 2 phillips head screws, but some considerations is needed to avoid a couple of easy pitfalls we encountered.   The clips themselves are soft plastic and easily damaged by over tightening the screws.   The threaded inserts that the clips are screwed into to have raised knurled faces.   The clips need to secured in the exact same position as the original because the soft plastic will seat over the raised face and make it make it very difficult to adjust the position without damaging the clip.

Its very important to mark and note the exact position of the broken clip, and attached the new one in that exact position.   A small deviation can make the door annoyingly “catchy” to open and close.   Only screw down the new clip to finger tight and test the door function before screwing home, remember not to over tighten because the new clip will break.
